The journey, step by step

What happens on a real short-term rental host from sign-up to your first withdrawal, and how long each part takes. In total: 11 days to 3 months.

  1. Create your Airbnb account

Every earning app starts with an account tied to your real name and email. Here you sign up as a demo person, so nothing about you is used.

    Typical estimate About 5 minutes

  2. Log in to Airbnb

Real apps ask you to confirm your email and often turn on two-step login. Never reuse a password from another site, and only ever type it on the real site.

    Typical estimate A minute

  3. Complete your Airbnb profile

Your profile is your shop window: photo, headline, skills and price. Guests compare it with everyone else's before they pick you.

Typical estimate 2 to 4 hours: photos, description and house rules

  4. Verify your identity

Most platforms check your ID before you can withdraw money. It stops fraud and is required by payment laws.

From Airbnb's published rules ID checks often take minutes, sometimes a day or two

    Airbnb checks ID.

  5. Wait for Airbnb to approve you

Platforms control who joins. Some let you in instantly, others review profiles, vet applications or keep a waitlist when they have enough people.

From Airbnb's published rules A quick profile or ID review, usually 1 to 3 days

Airbnb: Quick profile or ID review. You must verify your identity before your first listing goes live, and new host payouts can be held up to 45 days for review.

  6. Publish a listing and accept a booking on Airbnb

Guests send booking requests. You check their profile and dates, then accept. Calendars, prices and house rules all matter.

Typical estimate A first booking can take weeks

  7. Host the stay

Clean, send check-in details, be reachable during the stay, then reset for the next guest.

Typical estimate The stay itself plus cleaning

  8. Get approved and reviewed

The guest confirms the booking is done and leaves a rating. Early reviews matter most: they decide who sees you next.

Typical estimate Released after the guest checks in

  9. Airbnb takes its fee

What the guest pays is not what you keep. The platform fee comes off first, then your own costs.

    From Airbnb's published rules Instant

Fees on Airbnb: Host-only fee of about 15.5% for most hosts

  10. Wait for Airbnb to clear the money

New earnings sit as "pending" for a while so refunds and disputes can be handled. You cannot withdraw them yet.

From Airbnb's published rules About 24 hours after guest check-in

Payout speed on Airbnb: About 24 hours after guest check-in. New accounts: payouts can be held up to 45 days.

  11. Reach the minimum payout

Many platforms only let you withdraw above a threshold. Small tasks may mean several bookings before you can cash out.

From Airbnb's published rules One booking is enough here

Minimum payout on Airbnb: $1 USD default for most methods, over $60 via Western Union.

  12. Withdraw from Airbnb

Pick a payout method and confirm. Bank transfers take a few days, wallets and instant cards can be faster but may charge a fee.

From Airbnb's published rules Usually 1 to 5 days to arrive

Payout methods on Airbnb: Bank transfer, PayPal, Payoneer, Western Union.
