What the sketch shows

A rider sees one price, but that price can feed several pockets. The drawing opens a generic receipt into driver earnings, the platform service fee, and booking or regulatory charges. The boxes are categories, not proportions. Shares vary by city and trip, and the receipt may use different labels in different markets.

The driver's earnings pay for the transport work. The platform's service fee supports running the marketplace and related services. Booking charges may help cover operational or insurance costs; regulatory charges, airport fees and taxes may be collected for other obligations. These are not all interchangeable platform profit. Tolls can also appear as pass-through amounts, including reimbursements when the driver paid them.

A rider tip takes its own path to the driver on services such as Uber and Lyft. It should be distinguished from the service fee and the price of the ride. Check the local platform terms for how tips and any payment-processing arrangements are handled.

Read the trip receipt, then count your costs Some markets use upfront driver offers rather than a simple fixed percentage of the passenger's fare. Promotions, adjustments and local rules can change the relationship between the two amounts. A single receipt cannot establish a platform's permanent cut.

Finally, the amount credited to a driver is not the same as personal profit. Fuel or charging, maintenance, insurance and other operating costs still matter. Compare earnings after costs across the full time spent working, including waiting and repositioning.
