The journey, step by step

What happens on a real surveys and micro-tasks from sign-up to your first withdrawal, and how long each part takes. In total: 3 weeks to 7 weeks.

  1. Create your UserTesting account

Every earning app starts with an account tied to your real name and email. Here you sign up as a demo person, so nothing about you is used.

    Typical estimate About 5 minutes

  2. Log in to UserTesting

Real apps ask you to confirm your email and often turn on two-step login. Never reuse a password from another site, and only ever type it on the real site.

    Typical estimate A minute

  3. Complete your UserTesting profile

Your profile is your shop window: photo, headline, skills and price. Customers compare it with everyone else's before they pick you.

Typical estimate 15 to 30 minutes of profile questions

  4. Verify your identity

Most platforms check your ID before you can withdraw money. It stops fraud and is required by payment laws.

Typical estimate ID checks often take minutes, sometimes a day or two

  5. Wait for UserTesting to approve you

Platforms control who joins. Some let you in instantly, others review profiles, vet applications or keep a waitlist when they have enough people.

From UserTesting's published rules Application and vetting, often 1 to 3 weeks

UserTesting: Application and vetting. You must pass a short practice test with a working microphone, and PayPal is the only payout method (about 14 days after a test).

  6. Pass a screener and take a test on UserTesting

You first record a practice test. Then tests appear with short screeners, and the first testers who qualify get the slot.

Typical estimate Studies appear unpredictably, some days none

  7. Do the test and think aloud

Speak your thoughts out loud while you use the website or app, follow every task and record clearly. Muted or rushed tests are rejected and unpaid.

Typical estimate 5 to 20 minutes per study

  8. Get approved and reviewed

The customer confirms the test is done and leaves a rating. Early reviews matter most: they decide who sees you next.

Typical estimate Researchers usually approve within a few days

  9. UserTesting takes its fee

What the customer pays is not what you keep. The platform fee comes off first, then your own costs.

    Typical estimate Instant

  10. Wait for UserTesting to clear the money

New earnings sit as "pending" for a while so refunds and disputes can be handled. You cannot withdraw them yet.

From UserTesting's published rules About 14 days after each test

Payout speed on UserTesting: About 14 days after each test

  11. Reach the minimum payout

Many platforms only let you withdraw above a threshold. Small tasks may mean several tests before you can cash out.

From UserTesting's published rules One test is enough here

Minimum payout on UserTesting: No minimum.

  12. Withdraw from UserTesting

Pick a payout method and confirm. Bank transfers take a few days, wallets and instant cards can be faster but may charge a fee.

From UserTesting's published rules Usually 1 to 5 days to arrive

    Payout methods on UserTesting: PayPal.
