Tip: not every platform here accepts people in every country. Check which ones you can join with your country and age before you sign up anywhere.
To earn in dollars from anywhere, sell a skill on Upwork or Fiverr, or take remote tutoring, AI-training or study work that pays worldwide. Most of these platforms pay you in US dollars. The harder part is getting that money into your local bank, and the best route (Payoneer, Wise or a direct local-bank withdrawal) depends on the platform and your country.
Why this is a real option now
The World Bank's September 2023 report, Working Without Borders, found that online gig work makes up as much as 12% of the global labour market. It counted 545 online gig platforms operating in 186 countries and found that low- and middle-income countries account for 40% of platform traffic. Demand is rising fastest in developing regions: job postings grew 130% in Sub-Saharan Africa, against 14% in North America. The same report warns that most workers in low-income countries have no social insurance or benefits, so plan for irregular income.
How to choose
- Skills. A sellable service such as writing, design, development, video editing or admin support fits freelance marketplaces. Fluent English fits tutoring. Careful reading and reasoning, or a professional specialty, fits AI-training work. With none of these, research studies pay small amounts while you build a skill.
- Startup cost. Everything below is free to join. Upwork charges $0.15 per Connect to send proposals, and some new Fiverr sellers pay a one-time ID verification fee.
- Time to first payment. Fiverr clears earnings 14 days after an order is completed. Upwork pays hourly work 10 days after the billing week ends and fixed-price work 5 days after approval. Mercor and Outlier pay weekly.
- Where you live. Upwork works in more than 180 countries but not in Russia, Belarus, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Crimea or the Luhansk and Donetsk regions. PayPal does not support Pakistan. Fiverr pays only to PayPal and Payoneer. Check each platform's rules and your country's page, such as Pakistan or Nigeria, before investing time.

Freelance marketplaces: the biggest pool of dollar clients
Upwork charges a Freelancer Service Fee of 0% to 15% per contract, shown before you commit, and its minimum rates are $3 an hour and $5 for fixed-price work. You get one account, must verify your ID, and a new profile that sends no proposal in its first 90 days is set to private. Start with how to get started on Upwork.
Fiverr keeps 20% of every order, extras and tips included, and you cannot message buyers first. Instead you publish packaged Gigs from $5 and wait for orders or reply to project briefs. Level 1 status needs 5 orders, 3 unique clients and $400 in earnings. See how to get started on Fiverr.

AI training: dollar pay for careful work
AI companies pay people to write, rate and correct model answers.
DataAnnotation lists $25 to $50 an hour for generalist work, $25 to $40 for language specialists and $75 to $150 or more for software engineers.
Mercor writes every contract in US dollars and pays every Wednesday for the previous week, through Stripe Connect or, where Stripe is unavailable, through Wise, which it says typically lands within about an hour once you accept the transfer.
Outlier pays weekly on Tuesdays by PayPal, Airtm or ACH, and says rates vary by expertise and location, with the rate shown before each project. Expect assessments and uneven availability of work. Compare them in best AI training platforms.
Tutoring: steady hours if you speak English well
Cambly pays $0.17 a minute ($10.20 an hour), or $12 an hour with children, weekly, and needs no degree or certificate.
Preply lets you set your own rate but keeps each first trial lesson and then 33%, falling to 18% after 400 hours. Preply does not accept tutors from Iran, Sudan, Cuba, Syria, North Korea, Crimea, Russia or Belarus. Read how to get students on Preply.
Small but worldwide: studies and tests
Prolific sets a minimum participant reward of $8 an hour and recommends $12. You can cash out once you reach $6, and after your first four cashouts payments go to PayPal instantly.
PlaytestCloud pays $5 to $9 for a 15-minute game test with no payout threshold. Keep expectations realistic: a study of 2,676 Amazon Mechanical Turk workers found a median of about $2 an hour once unpaid time was counted.

Getting the dollars home
| Route | Best for | What it costs |
|---|---|---|
| Upwork Direct to Local Bank | Upwork earners in supported countries such as Pakistan | $0.99 per withdrawal |
| Fiverr and several marketplaces in one USD balance | Fiverr charges $3 to a Payoneer account or $1 to $3 by bank transfer via Payoneer, then Payoneer charges 1.2% to 4% on most withdrawals that cross currencies | |
| Clients who pay by bank transfer | Free to receive domestic USD, EUR and GBP, conversion from 0.23% | |
| Where it is supported | Fees vary by country, and it is not available in Pakistan |
Payoneer covers 190+ countries, but since 23 February 2026 it charges a 29.95 USD annual fee in Nigeria, Kenya, the Philippines, Pakistan and other listed countries if you receive less than 6,000 USD in 12 months. Wise quoted 11.36 USD to send 1,000 USD to a Kenyan bank account on 12 September 2026. Fiverr cannot pay into Wise at all. For details, read Payoneer vs Wise for freelancers and how to receive Payoneer payments in Pakistan.

First steps this week
- Open your country page and note which payout routes work where you live.
- Open a Payoneer or Wise account, or both, in your legal name. Platforms require the names on your ID, tax details and payout account to match.
- Pick one platform that fits your strongest skill and complete the profile and ID verification in full.
- Apply to one or two AI-training platforms and take their assessments while you wait for freelance replies.
- Send five to ten targeted Upwork proposals, or publish one Fiverr Gig with three packages.
- When the first payment arrives, compare what reached your bank with the headline amount, then adjust your payout route.
What to avoid
- "Task" jobs that ask for a deposit. A common scam pays small amounts for liking videos or rating products, then asks you to pay to unlock bigger tasks. Real platforms never charge you to work.
- Recruiters who ask for fees. Training fees, equipment bought through their vendor or "visa processing" charges are warning signs.
- Renting or buying someone else's account. Upwork allows one account per person and Fiverr requires your own ID and phone number. Borrowed accounts get closed, often with the money inside.
- Faking your location. Upwork allows a VPN only if it matches your real country, and Fiverr can make accounts that hide their location ineligible to sell.
- Moving clients off the platform. Upwork charges a Conversion Fee of 13.5% of a year of estimated earnings, and skipping it can mean a permanent suspension.
